On Friday Mrs. Tierney's class made apple sauce and had apple turnovers. The students each peeled an apple and got to snack on a few rings from it while the rest was put in the crock pot to cook. The turnovers were made in an air fryer and our room smelled so good!

The applesauce was very tasty! As apples were peeled and cored we saved all of the scraps. We learned about ways to use all of the scraps. We talked about how composting is one way to reuse scraps. Our scraps were shared with Mrs. Tierney's chickens, turkeys, ducks and goats.

For fire safety week the Parsons Fire Department sent fire fighters to speak to students. They talked to them about fire safety and had them do a simulation of rolling out of bed during a fire and getting under the smoke and then out of the room.

For part of our apple unit students learned about the different parts of an apple. We talked about what parts are edible to humans and what parts animals can eat that humans don't really eat. The students also labeled the diagram as part of our second grade standards.
