
Thank you to our PHS sports' teams for sending your athletes to welcome our Garfield students this morning. Our little Vikings' football players enjoyed hyping up the big Vikings too.

We are applying our knowledge of rounding and adding to determine how many miles it is across the USA.


Being able to count U.S. currency using coins and various denominations of bills is an important aspect of life, and one that students are taught early in grade school. Mrs. Pollard's 3rd grade students were adding coin values to provide correct sums today.

Mrs. Liska 's third grade students began reading the book "Holes" today. Besides being a good book, the book provides students the chance to enter into thought provoking discussions about deep topics like choices, consequences, justice, the justice system and friendship.

Mrs.Waun's class is going to spend the year learning about the different types of scientist to go along with our school theme! Today we learned about the astronaut Mae Jemison.








This Vikings successfully passed his 6 second addition facts in Xtra Math today! He also hit 10 AR points this week which is 20% of his initial goal for the year!


This week we have been learning about two of the syllable types. Students sorted real words and nonsense into two categories. Learning these syllable patterns helps students learn to decode unfamiliar words. They did a great job!











One of our first stories in our new reading series is Clark the Shark. The students took turns reading pages out loud to the class using a microphone. They are working to learn classroom procedures and did a great job showing respect for the person reading.

Noah is ROCKING third grade! He is my first Viking of the Week! He is going to do great things this year!


We were so excited to be back to school! This year has been amazing so far and it's only the second week!



Last Friday Mr. Pontious read The Girl who Never Made Mistakes to Mrs. Tierney's class. They loved having Mr. Pontious in the class. They asked him questions about his job and got to know a little about him.

Kiwanis Youth Coed Soccer


After reading the book "The Name Jar" students in Mrs. Liska's class talked about the importance of names and people correctly pronouncing their names. As students became better acquainted, they decorated name plates before the start of their next core subject lesson.
