The Grand Prize winner of the basket being raffled off is Parsons High School's very own Brenda Jones! Congratulations Brenda! We would like to thank everyone who donated and everyone that bought tickets. It was a very successfully fundraiser and we couldn't have done it without you. Thanks to everyone's generosity the members of Viking Coalition will be headed to Tankanyika Wildlife Park this spring for an unforgettable field trip! They all worked hard to make it happen.

Horticulture students have started on Fridays to cook and eat the things they grow in class, making a different dish each week. This week they cooked chicken breasts, chopped a few veggies and hard boiled eggs and mixed it with the lettuce and swiss chard they grew.

PHS Anatomy and Physiology students completed a lab on diffusion and osmosis Monday. For the lab, students used eggs, which have semi-permeable membranes. The membranes act as a barrier that water can move across based on concentration gradients, demonstrating the principles of osmosis (a type of diffusion), where water moves from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration. Students placed eggs in solutions of vinegar, and water, dark corn syrup or light corn syrup and studied how the eggs reacted. The shells dissolve with the vinegar, leaving the membrane. The eggs then swelled as they absorbed water through osmosis, or shrank as water moved out of the egg to balance the concentration levels on either side of the membrane.
